![]() Got to see McCall kick a lot more ass this time around, which is the main reason to see these movies. Other than Dave, you don't even know the names of any of the other guys. It happens like 2 minutes after you find out Pascal is the bad guy and even then, there are about 20 minutes left in the movie at that point. Also, they should have made it a bigger deal that the Dave's group of assassin's was actually McCall's old team before he faked his death. Most people had it figured out from the first trailer. If I had a complaint it would be that the movie waited way too long to reveal that Pedro Pascal was the bad guy. I just wish they hadn't gone with such a predictable plot. There were a lot of elements I liked, but the main plot has long been overdone. Still, that explosive flour trick was pretty cool. I can appreciate them wanting to delve into Robert's backstory some more for the second film and I liked that aspect, but they could've done a much better job of it. Not to mention it was impressive that Pedro's character was hitting anything in those high winds sniping from that tower. It seems like they'd be a little smarter than that. ![]() While it was spectacular, I just don't see the bad guys following Robert to an area being hit by a massive hurricane to kill him. I called it almost immediately that Pedro Pascal's character was going to be involved, even thinking to myself that I hope this isn't going to be like Kingsman 2 only for that to turn out to be exactly the case. This plot has been done so many times over, it was frankly kinda boring. However, I wasn't crazy about the main plot of the film being the same well-worn revenge tale with Susan getting murdered to push Robert into action (at least she fought back). I'm thinking they must've been smart enough to know that a man who singlehandedly takes out all your guards and barges in with an uzi is not one you mess with. That scene in the lobby was powerful stuff and I know a lot of people have wondered why the other bangers didn't come after them. This was especially true in the growing relationship between Robert and Miles and how he looked out for him. That's where the film was the strongest for me, whether it was retrieving a kidnapped daughter or helping the elderly gentleman reunite with his sister (oh what a lovely surprise that was) or dishing out some well deserved vengeance on some entitled one percenters who abused a woman. He makes Robert McCall such a compelling character for me and I just love the idea of an ex-Black Ops agent using his skills to help people in need in a personal need to atone for the things he's done in the past. ![]() Denzel definitely makes the film work as well as it does. I'm a fan of these movies, so I probably enjoyed this more than I should have. Or was it during the scene when he stabbed the shit out of that guy in the alley? ![]() Was it a fake out? Because that would've been cool to see too. Also, in the final fight in the town, how did Robert get hurt? He was leaving a blood trail around but I don't really remember him getting shot or cut by that point. I can't believe they didn't go that way and it really bugs me. It also ties up that thread with the gang being out there and possibly looking for Robert. As it was, it just seemed like they were kinda bumbling around and not really that good at their jobs, since the one fight they had against someone prepared for it, they all get killed. It also would've given the final set piece way more weight since we had seen these guys do some damage to people actually ready for a fight. Gang bursts in and the two ops take out the whole gang, demonstrating their skills, while the kid watches through the double-sided mirror.
